Nautilus R614 Recumbent Exercise Bike Review

Nautilus R614 Recumbent Bike

Nautilus R614 Recumbent Bike Console

In this Nautilus R614 Recumbent Exercise Bike Review I go over all the features like this Console.

The console for the Nautilus R614 Recumbent Bike comes with is just like the R616. However, there is one difference, the LCD screens for the R614 aren’t backlit like the R616 model.

It has two console displays. You will have the ability to measure 13 metrics of 3 user profiles. It also comes with 22 preset programs to give a variety of workouts..

The upper LCD screen shows the resistance level you are using along with the intensity of the workout that comes from the speed you are pedaling at and the resistance.

It displays your heart rate that’s being picked up by the pulse sensors on the handlebars. It will track your heart rate while your hands are on the handlebars. It also displays the zone of the workout you are currently in like aerobic or fat burn.

In the lower section of the LCD display, shows you the goal you’ve selected. In addition, it displays the basic metrics such as calories, distance, and time. You can even set goals like the total distance you want to be covered.

The lower display has three sections that show the RPM, heart rate and speed/distance.

There are buttons for you to control your workout below the lower display. The buttons include 10 quick jump buttons that enable you to jump between 1 and 20 resistance levels.

In the center, there are 4 navigational buttons that allow you to select between the programs and user profiles. The fan controls are at the bottom for the speed and the on/off.

The console has a USB port for backing up or uploading your workout data to an external hard drive or thumb/pen drive. From there, you can upload the results for tracking by your favorite app like the Nautilus Trainer 2.

Nautilus R614 Recumbent Bike Additional Features

Speakers: This recumbent bike comes with speakers and media port so you can listen to music while you are working out. The sound is not the greatest and tends to sound flat but it does its job.

Bottle Holder: Additionally, the bike includes a bottle holder that’s good-sized. This is one of those features you do not think about until you do not have it.

Fan: The bike comes with a 3-speed fan. This is actually one of my favorite features. No, it will not blow you away but you would be amazed at how this little fan can help take the edge off. Many recumbent bikes include these small fans along with other exercise equipment. I know many people laugh when they first see or hear about these little fans but they are included for a good reason.

Again, it will not blow you away (no pun intended) and it’s not meant to completely keep you cooled down. It’s there to keep the air moving and to take the edge off when you feel like you are burning up inside.

Comparing the Nautilus R614 to the Nautilus R616

This image shows comparing the Nautilus R614 Recumbent Bike to the Nautilus R616 Recumbent Bike

When we are looking to purchase something, no matter what it is, we will often compare price with features. I have saved you some time by doing that for you.

In the following, I have used the Nautilus R616 Recumbent Bike to compare from. It’s the next model up from the Nautilus R614 Recumbent Bike.

Both models offer a healthy amount of preprogrammed workouts. But the R616 provides a few more for a total of 29 programs. The R614 may have less at 22 programs but that is still a good amount. Either bike offers you with plenty to choose from to give you variety with your workouts.

This graphic shows nine different profile icons of men.

The Nautilus R614 Recumbent Bike has the option of storing workout data for two different profiles. However, the R616 has double that with the option of four profiles. If you plan on sharing your bike with any family or friends this is something to think about.

Both models have a perimeter weighted flywheel. This translates into a smooth and quiet ride. You will be able to watch TV, listen to music, or even carry on a phone conversation.

Heart Rate Monitor

To monitor your heart with the Nautilus R614 Recumbent Bike you need to hold on to the handheld heart rate monitor grips. You can do the same with the R616, but this model also gives you more of a high-tech and much more accurate option by using a chest strap. When it comes to monitoring your heart rate, the R616 by far is the winner.

Display & Console

Both of these bikes have the Dual Track LCD screen making it very easy to see the details of your workout. The R616 comes with a back-light which makes it easier for some people to read in areas that are dimly lit. Personally, I really like the look of the black-light but otherwise, these models look almost identical.

They both have a USB charging port, and Bluetooth connectivity to make data exporting to applications like Nautilus Plus  really easy.  Nautilus Plus is a free app that you can get on either Google Play or the Apple App Store.

Here are some the benefits you will get from Nautilus Trainer 2:

  • You can monitor, set, and track personal fitness goals.
  • Watch your progress as you advance from week to week.
  • Win Awards and Achievements by reaching your personal goals.
  • Sync your workout data automatically with the MyFitnessPal® app, a free nutrition app that will make hitting your daily calorie goals even easier.
  • The Nautilus Trainer 2 will keep a journal of your progress, Their slogan is “If you can track it, you can improve it!”

Comfort and Storage

Both of these bikes have ventilated seat backs for airflow. My back is the first thing that starts sweating when I am working out. So, having the vented seat backs is a great feature.

When it comes to the seat, as I mentioned earlier in this post, the Nautilus R614 seat has very little padding on the seat or seatback. For me, I need padding but for some people, the contoured seat and backrest may be enough? Sitting on a hard surface while riding a bike is not an option for me.

On the other hand, the Nautilus R616 offers a nice cushioned seat and seat back. But this comes down to personal preference.

If you need to store your recumbent bike after you work out and move it to another room, both models are equipped with transport wheels for maneuverability.

The Nautilus Recumbent Bikes come with a decent warranty:

  • Ten (10) year warranty on the frame.
  • Two (2) year warranty on the parts
  • One (1) year electronics warranty
  • 90-day labor warranty

Final Thoughts

A you lady with her finger on her cheek looking up in thought.

Nautilus makes a great recumbent bike for home use. Both of these models may be made by the same manufacturer and look very similar but there are clear differences between the two. The R616 definitely is the better bike between the two models.

The Nautilus R616 Recumbent Bike comes heart telemetry wireless chest strap ready for more accurate readings, easier to read backlit LCD screen. it includes a 3 piece crank system (R614 only has 1) providing you with better clearance when you are using the bike, comfortable padding on the seat and seat back, and more.

If you are on a budget and do not mind going without some of the features? The Nautilus R614 Recumbent Bike is very capable of delivering a good workout day in and day out. If you would like to know more about the Nautilus R616 Recumbent Bike I wrote a review for that model.
